Erin's Run This Saturday in Bangor

On Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10 a.m.  a 5K road race will take place along the Bangor Waterfront in remembrance of Bangor native Erin Woolley.

Woolley was a 2002 graduate of Bangor High School and graduated from the University of Maine in 2006. She worked for Spruce Run in Bangor and then enrolled in the University of Vermont Law School. She passed away from cancer shortly before receiving her diploma and was posthumously awarded a Juris Doctor degree.

The beneficiaries of the funds raised by the run are Spruce Run and a scholarship in Woolley's memory that will go toward the University of Maine's swimming and diving team.

Ben Sprague knew Woolley personally and really hopes that this run will become an annual tradition within the community.

"Erin was a good friend of mine growing up, I have known her since we were little kids. She was a great woman's advocate," Sprague says. "She was an inspiring person and devoted her entire life to helping women and victims of domestic violence. Her legacy can be carried on through this run."

Sprague informs that there are no special qualifications to be able to participate in the 5K run.

"People can run it, people can walk it -- 5K is pretty accessible distance, but if they want to walk it's fine too. It starts and ends on the Bangor Waterfront."
