How to ask for a Skype Interview -- Nikky Raney

I did my previous post about why Skype helps, but I realize that if people go about this the wrong way it could be bad. You can't just say, "Hey wanna Skype with me?!" So here are some tips for interviewing someone you don't already have a "friendship" or have had contact with previously.

EXAMPLES:

If the person you want to interview answers:

Nikky: Hi, may I please speak with Senator Gordon Bubble?

Gordon: This is he.

N: Hi Senator Bubble. I'm Nikky Raney, and I am working on an article for Nikky Newspapers regarding the recent ban on Ice Cream Sandwiches within New Hampdakifornia. I was hoping that I could schedule an interview with you within the next couple of days so I can get your input.

G: Oh, hello Nikky. I am going to be leaving tomorrow to visit China. I am afraid I won't be able to meet with you, and I don't have an international phone. We could do it over e-mail or wait until I get back?

N: I hope you enjoy your visit. Well, I was hoping to be able to get face-to-face. Are you familiar with Skype?

G: Yes, I have an account but have not really used it.

N: Well, if it is was okay with you we could have the interview through Skype's video conference.

G: Well, that's a great idea. You'll have to help me with it though.

...conversation continues with contact info...

N: Before I go, is there anyone else who you think I should speak with and interview regarding this topic?

If someone else (secretary) takes the call:

Nikky: Hi, May I please speak with Doctor Advil Aspirin?

Secretary: I am sorry Doctor Aspirin has left the office for the day, who am I speaking with?

N: I am Nikky Raney with Raney Newspapers. I am doing a story on the new male birth control pill, and I read that Doctor Aspirin had a part in the decision to start distributing it within the state. I would really like to get an interview with him.

S: Well, he's very busy. He won't be able to see you in person, maybe a phone call.

N: Are you familiar with Skype?

S: Yes, I talk with my husband on it often.

N: Do you think I may be able to schedule an interview with him through Skype?

S: That's a great idea. I don't see why not! I will make sure to have him get back to you and schedule a time for this interview!

I'll end this post here for now. I'll be sure to update again very soon.
Take care!
